Zone 2 is steady, conversational-pace cardio that builds endurance. Here's what it means and how game-based fitness uses it.
You may have heard 'zone 2' from fitness podcasts. It sounds technical, but it isn't.
Zone 2 is a comfortable, steady effort — a level where you can still speak in full sentences. It's often called the 'talk test.' If you can chat but couldn't sing, you're roughly there.
Training at this effort builds your aerobic base: the engine behind endurance, everyday stamina, and recovery between harder efforts.
Steady cardio is often dull: a treadmill, a screen, and 40 minutes of waiting. To make it enjoyable:
Use the talk test. If you're gasping, slow down. If you could sing, speed up a little.
Some of our games are scaled to zone-2 heart rate. Coaches adjust the pace to each person, so beginners and regulars can play together.
